“I feel sad seeing people being excluded”

A chance invitation from a friend to the Pelangi Pride Center - a resource hub for the LGBTQ community, brought Jordan, a uni student, to volunteer his weekends at the resource’s library to make sure that it is kept open to provide a safe space for the marginalised community, who oftentimes, have nowhere or no one to turn to. “The library plays a very important role, a safe space for those who are lost, ostracised and the discriminated to seek support and help without any stigmatisation. Some who come here just want a space where they need not be obligated to be part of the community group.”

“In my volunteerism and encounters in school I have seen many unfair and not so nice treatments but never noticed how Singaporean Singapore is. I’m a majority in a lot of places – being Chinese, Male and a Singaporean, we can only perpetuate the issue or bridge the barrier – I choose the latter."
